Kathryn & Steve Hutchinson

A Marist Family: The Hutchinson’s service spans the past
and embraces the future The Hutchinson’s Marist roots run deep. All three children graduated from Marist: Mark ’87, Scott ’89 and Sarah ’94. Steve and Kathryn are a part of the Marist legacy. Marist fosters academic excellence in a value-based environment, a resource for the whole community. As partners with the school, parents have a unique advantage and responsibility. But, it’s a lot of work. “We Are One” can begin to take on a new meaning. “We were soccer, band, basketball, softball, PALS and retreat parents. Being a Marist parent is a full-time job!” Steve said. “But there are rewards,” Kathryn said. “The friendships that are made with other parents continue long after the kids have graduated and left for college.” "We have great stories of Marist parent bus trips but that will have to wait for another day,” Steve added. Kathryn and Steve recognize the significance of scholarships provided by the Marist Foundation. Both served on the Marist Foundation Board of Directors. Steve served on the Marist Operations Board to oversee the financial health of the school and Kathryn was employed as a bookkeeper for both the school and the Foundation. When the Marist Brothers’ diminishing numbers forced them to withdraw from active control of the school, a school board was established. Steve served as its first president from 1991-93. Kathryn was the president of the Foundation Board in 1994. In 1999 they co-chaired the Marist Auction. To help increase the scholarships available for Marist students, Steve and Kathryn made a planned gift to create the Hutchinson Family Scholarship Fund with the hope that it will be grown by their children and others. — From Marist Magazine, Volume 9 No. 1, Fall 2017. |
